The first brick of Lehigh's Packer Hall was laid on July 1, 1866. All of the stones used to build the hall were transferred to Lehigh's campus by its own personal railway. Once the stones arrived on campus, a sawmill, which stood where the flagpole stands today, was used to shape the stones to be laid into position.
