Lehigh's Linderman Library, often referred to in its early years as the University Library, was erected in 1878. The library was opened on June 21, 1878, as a dedication from Asa Packer to his daughter, Lucky Packer Linderman, after her death. Asa Packer established $500,000 in his will as an endowment for the library, with $100,000 being used to first build the library and $400,000 be reserved for library collections and maintenance.
